The Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat has given an ultimatum to the officers of the department to exhaust the budget provided for purchase of computers and furniture for the schools before March 31. Rawat said that the State government is committed for improving the standard of primary education and for this it has taken many decisions. He said that a sum of Rs 26.24 crore was provided in the financial year 2023-24 for purchase of computers and furniture in the schools. Rawat said that the officers have been directed for 100 per cent utilisation of this budget before March this year. He further informed that a sum of Rs Six crore was allotted for purchasing furniture and equipment in the primary and upper primary schools of the State. He said that a sum of Rs 10.25 lakh was provided to Almora, Rs 5.28 lakh for Bageshwar, Rs 31.24 lakh for Chamoli, Rs 16,16 lakh for Champawat, Rs 1.59 crore for Dehradun, Rs 1.04 crore for Haridwar, Rs 60.54 lakh for Nainital, Rs 12.08 lakh for Pauri, Rs 14.10 lakh for Pithoragarh, Rs 11.50 lakh for Rudraprayag, Rs 21.74 lakh for Tehri, Rs 1.33 crore for Udham Singh Nagar and Rs 19.36 lakh for Uttarkashi district for purchasing furniture and other equipment.
Similarly, for purchasing computer hardware and software, a sum of Rs 19.99 crore was given to the schools. Under this head a sum of Rs 91.29 lakh and Rs 1.37 crore was provided to Almora and Bageshwar districts respectively. Similarly, a sum of Rs 2.01 crore was given to Chamoli, Rs 71.44 lakh for Champawat, Rs 2.04 crore for Dehradun, Rs 1.39 crore for Nainital, Rs 1.25 crore for Pauri, Rs 1.20 crore for Pithoragarh, Rs 1.74 crore for Rudraprayag, Rs 2.32 crore for Tehri, Rs 2.39 crore for Udham Singh Nagar and Rs 1.61 crore for Uttarkashi district.
The minister said that a sum of Rs 14.79 lakh is given for purchasing computers in model schools of the State. He warned that explanation will be sought from the officers concerned if the provided budget is not fully used.
