CM inspects expressway works, assures all assistance to ensure timely completion of project
Attempts are being made to complete work on the Delhi-Dehradun expressway before the target time of March 2024. Officials said this to chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami who inspected the expressway works underway on the outskirts of Dehradun on Sunday. The CM inspected the elevated road construction near the Dat Kali temple and the tunnel construction near the temple. He also sought information about the works from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) during his inspection. Dhami told officials of the executing agencies to lay special focus on meeting the deadline and work quality. He said that the State government will provide all cooperation needed by NHAI to expedite the expressway work so that there is no delay in its completion. Permission has been given to continue the expressway works in Uttarakhand during the night, he added.
Dhami said that after completion of the expressway the distance between Dehradun and Delhi will be reduced to two to two and half hours by road. Uttarakhand will benefit considerably from this project while those in Delhi and its nearby regions will also find it more convenient to travel to Uttarakhand. Considering the speed at which road connectivity is being enhanced in Uttarakhand, the State will witness a rise in economic activities in the future, he added. Dhami also interacted with the labourers working on the expressway project. He directed the NHAI officials to attend properly to the workers’ health, accommodation and food.
The NHAI officials informed the CM that a target has been set to complete the expressway works by March 2024. However, efforts are being undertaken to complete the work before the set deadline, said the officials.
Public Works Department chief engineer Ayaz Ahmed, Dehradun district magistrate Sonika, additional secretary Vinit Kumar and NHAI officials were also present during the CM’s inspection.
