With a clip of a logjam on the bridle path to Yamunotri on the day of the temple’s reopening going viral on social media, the State government has claimed that the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarkashi district is being conducted smoothly. Officials averred that vehicles of visitors are being temporarily stopped at designated sites before being allowed to go ahead as part of traffic and crowd management on the Yamunotri route. The movement on the bridle path from Jankichatti to Yamunotri is also being facilitated in an orderly manner, the officials claimed.
Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had directed the Garhwal commissioner to spruce up the Yatra arrangements and to find solutions to problems after holding talks with all the stakeholders. The commissioner said that the pilgrimage arrangements are in order. A large number of pilgrims have started coming since Akshay Tritiya on Friday. The administration and police have implemented the plan meant to be enforced during the peak pilgrimage season. The authorities are regulating the movement of vehicles on the national highway to Yamunotri considering the high number of people travelling to this destination. Horse-mule and Dandi-Kandi operators are being allowed on rotational basis on the bridle path to Yamunotri.
The officials further said that the gate and one-way system is being implemented on the narrow and sensitive stretches of the path to Yamunotri. Vehicles are being stopped one-way temporarily at Damta, Dobata, Paligad, Ranachatti and Fulchatti and then being allowed further in a controlled manner.
The Uttarkashi district magistrate Meherban Singh Bisht held a meeting on Saturday to review the arrangements for the pilgrimage to Gangotri and Yamunotri temples in the district. He directed the officials to ensure that the necessary arrangements are in place to ensure a convenient and safe experience for visitors. He said that controlled and temporary halting of vehicles on the Yamunotri route is helping in mitigating traffic congestion. This will also help in decreasing congestion on the bridle path to Yamunotri, he said.
