Camera traps have been installed and cages have been placed in an attempt to trace and capture the tiger responsible for killing a woman recently in the Dhikuli area of Corbett national park. The big cat had killed Kaushalya Devi on Tuesday when she had gone into the jungle to collect firewood. Corbett deputy director Rahul Mishra said that camera traps had been put in place to trace the movements of the big cat. The big cat has been spotted by camera trap and its movements are being monitored by the department staff. If the tiger is not caught in the cages placed by the department, attempts will be made to tranquilise and capture the big cat, he said.
It will be recalled that following the death of the woman on Tuesday, the angry locals had sought concrete steps to ensure their safety from the big cat. Apart from efforts to capture the tiger, the department has also appealed to the locals to abstain from venturing into the woods.
