Eight new patients of dengue surface in Doon

The menace of vector borne disease dengue is continuing to increase in the provisional State capital Dehradun. On Monday the State Health department reported eight new patients of the disease. The district now has 84 patients with the disease in this season.
The health department collected 191 samples of the patients for the Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) test and out of them eight samples were found positive for the disease. A total of 24 patients of the disease are undergoing treatment in different hospitals of the district. The department has declared an alert in Ajabpur Kalan, Race Course (Police Lines, Nai Basti), GMS Road, Dharampur, Tyagi Road and Dehra Khas areas of the city. Dengue is a viral infection spread by the mosquito Aedes Aezypti popularly known as Tiger Mosquito. The symptoms of the disease are persistent high fever, rashes, headache and pain in the joints. In the acute cases the platelets number decreases drastically which may prove fatal for the patient.
The doctors’ advice that since the Aedes mosquito bites during day time, everyone should wear full sleeve clothes to reduce exposure of their body for the mosquito to bite.
