In latest news from Doon, with Uttarakhand gearing up for the Lok Sabha election barely two months away, the State administration is taking steps as directed by the Election Commission to make this election casualty-free. To facilitate casualty-free election, air ambulance service will be made available to all the government officers and personnel who would be on election duty. Besides, medical kits would be provided to each of the election duty personnel. Notably, 13 persons on election duty died in the 2022 Assembly election in the State.
Besides, stress has been laid on ensuring 75 per cent polling in Uttarakhand this time. Figures say that Uttarakhand recorded 49.25 per cent polling in the 2004 Lok Sabha election while it rose to 53.96 per cent in 2009 followed by 62.15 per cent in 2014 and 61.50 per cent in 2019 LS elections. The national average of polling in the 2019 election was 67.40 per cent.
There are 11729 booths spread across the State and there is no electricity connection in 207 of them while 90 booths have no drinking water facility. There are 64 booths which have no toilet facility while 825 booths have no road connectivity. The Election Commission is to address these issues in one month, a senior administrative officer said.
