The State government employees organised a protest rally against New Pension Scheme (NPS) and Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) in the summer capital Gairsain on Thursday. The National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) had given the call for the rally in which employees from all parts of the State took part.

The employees assembled at the ground of the Government Inter College Gairsain in the morning and from there they marched to PWD guest house and Ramlila Maidan. A memorandum directed to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami was handed over to the sub divisional magistrate (SDM) for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme by the employees.

The president of the Uttarakhand chapter of the NMOPS, Jeetmani Painyuli said that the agitation will be intensified in the State. He said that the government will restore OPS only when all the employees and teachers become united in its demand.

Painyuli said the hard earned money of the employees is being invested in the share market under the New Pension Scheme (NPS).  He warned that if the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) is not restored then the talented youngsters will not show any interest in the government jobs. He said that a scheme such as NPS will make the country weak and encourage privatisation.

The general secretary of the State chapter of the NMOPS, Mukesh Raturi said that the employees of the State should follow the example of their counterparts in Himachal Pradesh in getting the benefit of the OPS.
