Employees rally against NPS and UPS

Friday, 27 SEPTEMBER 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

A rally was organised by the National Movement for Old Pension Scheme (NMOPS) here on Thursday in support of the one-point demand for restoration of the OPS.

Large number of employee organisations took part in the rally organised at the Parade Ground.  The employees are protesting the New Pension Scheme (NPS) and the newly launched Unified Pension Scheme (UPS).

The NMOPS Uttarakhand chapter president  Jeetmani Painyuli said that the employees have rejected the UPS due to its many flaws. He said that the 10 per cent contribution given monthly by the employees in UPS will not be returned to the employees. Painyuli said that under OPS the employees get the benefit of full pension on completion of 20 years of service, which has been increased to 25 years under UPS. The upper age limit for recruitment of employees in government jobs in the State is 42 years due to which most of the employees get only 18 to 24 years of service, thus making them ineligible for  full pension under UPS.

Painyuli said that the government has divided the employees into three categories OPS, NPS and UPS which proves that it is playing divide and rule policy.
