The police had an encounter with criminals while on checking duty on the Khanpur–Laksar highway in Haridwar. Police said that the criminals hid themselves in the fields while firing shots at the police team. Police then started combing operation and resorted to retaliatory firing. One of the criminals was injured in the police firing and was captured. But the other criminal escaped. The injured was admitted to the civil hospital. The SSP Ajay Singh and SP rural S K Singh visited the hospital and questioned the criminal.
Police said that the encounter happened when the police team on checking duty asked two bike-borne persons to stop for checking. But they did not stop. That made the police suspicious and they chased the bike. The bike skidded and two criminals started firing at the police team while escaping. No police team member was injured. The police are now trying to arrest the other criminal who has escaped.
