Enlightened voter basic foundation of democracy: Governor

 A cultural extravaganza was organised at Bannu School here on the occasion of 15th National Voters day on Saturday. The governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh attended the programme as chief guest. 

Congratulating the people, Singh said that a strong democracy is needed for the development of the country. He said that the voter is the basic foundation of democracy. The governor exhorted the voters  to exercise their right to vote without fear.

He said that apart from being a right, voting is also the duty of every voter. By participating in voting, people make democracy and the country more powerful.

Appreciating the office of chief electoral officer of Uttarakhand, the governor said that it has established its reach in the remote and inaccessible parts of the State. He said that it is a matter of great pride that all the elections held so far in the State have remained peaceful and impartial. The State has set up an example in the country in this regard.

In the programme the secretary Dilip Jawalkar informed about the activities of the department.  The additional chief electoral officer (ACEO) expressed gratitude to everyone on the behalf of CEO Uttarakhand, BVRC Purushottam.

 In the cultural programme Pritam Bharatwan, Basanti Bisht and music group Pandavas enthralled the audience with their performance.

The governor inspected different stalls set up by districts on different themes on the occasion. He also distributed prizes to the winners of essay, slogan, painting, quiz and reel completion.

 The governor also released the calendar, T-shirt and mascot Saruli- Summyal in the programme.
