Ensure 100 per cent garbage segregation at source in ULBs: Sandhu

The chief secretary SS Sandhu on Wednesday instructed the officials to prepare an action plan for solid waste management to ensure 100 per cent segregation of garbage at source is being done in all the urban local bodies (ULBs). He said this while chairing a meeting at the secretariat regarding solid waste management in the State. He asked for information about the number of garbage collection vehicles in all local bodies.
Sandhu directed officials concerned to make suitable arrangements for necessary vehicles for local bodies according to the requirement soon. He also asked for reports of category-wise door to door garbage collection and segregation of garbage at source from residential buildings, commercial buildings and institutions from all ULBs. He also directed the officials to ensure arrangements for real time monitoring of garbage collection and third-party survey of segregation.
The chief secretary directed them to work towards eliminating big dustbins placed on roads by making door to door service more efficient. Sandhu also sought information regarding the sewage treatment plant (STP) operated by the Peyjal Nigam. He instructed the officials concerned to make arrangements for third party surveys and real time monitoring of all STPs. The principal secretary of the Urban Development directorate RK Sudhanshu was also directed to strengthen his team regarding solid waste management across the State.
