Ensure cleanliness of rivers, develop Chamoli as clean & model district: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami instructed officials of the Chamoli district to ensure that all the rivers originating in and flowing through the district are kept clean. Steps should be taken to prevent garbage from being dumped into the rivers and dirty water from nalas should be treated, he said. Dhami also stressed that Chamoli should be developed as a clean and model district. The CM said this while chairing a meeting with district-level officials at the Vidhan Sabha building in Bharadisain on Wednesday.
“Badrinath, Hemkund, Gopinath and other sacred places are situated in Chamoli along with the nation’s first village Mana. It is our moral responsibility to ensure that this border district remains clean,” he said. The CM directed the officials to ensure the cleanliness of all the rivers in the district. Awareness should be raised among those living in riverside areas. He stressed that all the people should work together to ensure that all the rivers remain clean from their point of origin and throughout their course in the State. The CM also said that the departments should also ensure cleanliness in their work places while directing officials to initiate necessary steps for this. Special focus should be laid on cleanliness in government guest houses so as to give a positive message to tourists visiting the State.
Stating that women have played a major role in the development of Uttarakhand, he said that focus should be laid on boosting their skills, energy and relevant development works. The CM also reviewed the works undertaken by the departments in detail. He directed the executing agencies related to roadworks to ensure that the roads are made free from potholes with focus on the safety aspect. The Police and Transport department officials were directed to ensure regular checks of the vehicles and take out unfit vehicles from operation in order to prevent any type of accident. He also issued necessary instructions to the Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry and other linear departments for enhancing the economic status of farmers. The disaster relief works in Jyotirmath were also discussed in the meeting.
District magistrate Sandeep Tiwari informed the CM about the innovative works being undertaken in Chamoli district. The Maithana village is being developed as a modern village while mushroom cultivation is being encouraged in villages in the Adibadri area. He further informed that the government inter college in Bharadisain is being developed as a model school. Garhwal inspector general of police KS Naganyal, superintendent of police Sarvesh Panwar, chief development officer Nandan Kumar and other officials were also present in the meeting.
