Ensure participation of women in social audit of drinking water schemes: CS

Chief secretary Radha Raturi said that participation of locals, especially women is necessary in the social audit of drinking water schemes in the State. The CS said this while chairing 11th meeting of the 11th high power committee (HPC) of Uttarakhand water supply programme at the State secretariat on Monday. The programme is financed by the World Bank for providing drinking water in peri-urban areas of the State. She said that top priority should be given to the satisfaction of common citizens on drinking water related matters and instructed the officers to adopt best practices in this field and strengthen the grievance redressal mechanism. In the HPC, the CS directed the drinking water department and other officials concerned to immediately send a letter to the Government of India for the extension of the time limit of Jal Jeevan Mission.
She said that special attention should be on maintaining the quality of drinking water and its uninterrupted supply to the public. Raturi directed that all the performance indicators should be entered in the MIS on the user friendly dashboard under best practices.
In the meeting the CS gave administrative and financial approval on the extension of the time limit of the project management consultancy firm for the Uttarakhand water supply programme and its environmental audit. She also gave approval for the hiring of consultancy services for implementation completion and result (CR) report for the Uttarakhand water supply programme.
It was informed in the meeting that under the Uttarakhand water supply programme assisted by World Bank at a cost of Rs 975 crore, water supply is being provided for 16 hours in a day with 100 percent volume metering in 22 peri-urban areas of Dehradun, Tehri, Haridwar, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts.
Secretaries Dilip Jawalkar, Shailesh Bagauli and senior officers of the departments concerned attended the meeting.
