Ensure proper function of de-addiction centres: district judge

The first meeting of the mental health review board was held in the district judge’s office in Pauri. The district judge Ashish Naithani presided over the meeting in which discussion was also held on the mental health review board and mental health care.
Naithani gave necessary instructions and directions to the members of the mental health review board. It was stated in the meeting that de-addiction centres had become more of a business instead of functioning as health care facilities for those suffering from addictions also caused by mental health issues. The district judge directed the board members to frame specific and strict rules for de-addiction centres. He said that lodging, food and sanitation facilities for the persons in these centres should be of a good standard. Medical officer, paramedical staff and councillors should also be available daily in such centres. The district judge also directed that de-addiction centres should be inspected during the camp to be organised in the second week of January at Kotdwar.
Additional chief medical officer Ramesh Kunwar informed in the meeting that there are 788 mental patients in the Pauri district, but most of them do not have any disability certificate. Kunwar further said that the mental disability certificate will be given in all blocks of the district on February 14. Various officials concerned were also present in the meeting.
