The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) will organise a programme on June 19 under the Prime Minister’s Employment Promotion Scheme (PMVBRY). The main event will be held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the programme, incentive benefits worth around Rs 2,400 crore will be distributed to eligible employees and employers across the country, officials said.

The regional development fund commissioner, V V B Singh informed at a press conference on Wednesday that to increase awareness about the scheme, similar programmes will be held in nearly 200 industrial centres and state capitals. “In Uttarakhand, the EPFO regional office, Dehradun, will organise a parallel event at the chief minister’s camp office in Garhi Cantt. Similar events will also be conducted in Haridwar and Sitarganj,” he said.

Singh said that the PMVBRY scheme aims to create more jobs, increase employment opportunities for youth and expand social security coverage in the formal sector. He said that under the scheme, the first-time employees, registered with EPFO and earning up to Rs one lakh per month, can receive an incentive equal to one month’s salary, up to a maximum of Rs 15,000. The amount will be given in two instalments after completing the required service period.

He further informed that the scheme also provides incentives to employers who create additional jobs. Eligible employers can receive up to Rs 3,000 per month for each additional employee for a period of two years. Special benefits have been provided for the manufacturing sector.
