Equality vital for liberty, says Meghwal

The Union minister of State for Law and Justice, Arjun Ram Meghwal, stressed on the importance of equality for the preservation of liberty. He said this while speaking at the start of the five-day 22nd convocation programme at UPES here on Friday. On the first day of the convocation, various degrees were conferred to the students. This year, for the first time, the convocation is being held over five days, from November 22 to 26. The programme began with the convocation ceremonies for the School of Health Sciences and Technology, along with the School of Law. Speaking on the occasion, Meghwal congratulated the students and the university for marking this milestone occasion. He emphasised the importance of equality for the preservation of liberty and encouraged students to follow in the footsteps of former President APJ Abdul Kalam. He outlined essential qualities for achieving development including character, culture, ability and capability. To establish a strong foundation, he advised students to create a roadmap for their future.

UPES vice chancellor Ram Sharma stated, “This convocation marks a significant achievement for UPES, as we pay tribute to each student individually. We are proud to acknowledge their distinct accomplishments and promote a culture of high standards. This event also demonstrates our continued advancement in national and global rankings, which is fueled by robust partnerships with industry, innovative research endeavours, a dedication to fostering entrepreneurship and a commitment to developing students into future leaders, innovators and catalysts for change. I am confident that the graduating class of 2024 will go on to create a future defined by purpose and influence.”

A total of 17 gold medals, 61 silver medals and 24 certificates of appreciation were awarded to the students of various schools of the university during the convocation. Notably, the convocation will continue until November 26, during which degrees will be distributed to students from other schools of the university.
