Error in printed answers makes govt uncomfortable in assembly

The government was left red faced in the house on the third day of the monsoon session when members of the opposition pointed towards errors in the written answers provided to them. The gaffe of the officials came to the fore in the first question during the question hour when the Kedarnath MLA Manoj Rawat pointed that in answer of a question raised by him on the second day has been pasted in the sheet of the written answers in response to a different question posed by him on Wednesday.

A hassled parliamentary affairs minister Banshidhar Bhagat took time to understand the error. The speaker then ruled that the first question would be taken after the second one. The Manglaur MLA, Qazi Nizamuddin who asked the second question claimed that wrong data was provided by the authorities in the answer. Nizamuddin had asked about the target taken up by the state government for the procurement of paddy.

In his response Bhagat said that a target of 15 lakh metric tonnes has been taken for paddy in the year 2021-22 and last year 10 lakh metric tonnes was procured. He added that the government has set up 247 purchase centres for paddy in the state. Nizamuddin claimed that 247 centres cannot procure 15 lakh tonnes of paddy in one month and said that either the data provided is incorrect or there is a major scam in the whole process. He claimed that a scam of Rs 290 crore has occurred in the procurement of paddy and the government should investigate the issue.
