Evacuation plan of LIC building gets deferred

The plan of evacuating a condemned building owned by Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) located at Chakrata Road here has been deferred due to authorities being busy in the preparation of the Road Safety World Series matches scheduled to start in Dehradun from September 21. A senior official from LIC told The Pioneer that the evacuation was scheduled to be carried out on September 21 but now it will possibly be done after this five-day series. He said that no date has been finalised yet.
The Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Daleep Singh Kunwar said that the police have assured LIC of proper assistance but no fixed date has been given to the police. “We were ready on September 14 too for evacuating the building but it did not happen that day due to certain reasons. The LIC later proposed the date of September 21 for evacuation but most of the police personnel would be busy in managing traffic and tackling safety concerns due to the cricket series starting from the same day here at that time. The LIC has talked about getting a date and required permission from the district magistrate of Dehradun but no date has been given to us so far,” said the SSP.
Meanwhile, the LIC official stated that the corporation has issued evacuation notices to tenants but the evacuation process will be started with the help of police and district administration after the cricket series.
