In view of the reported increase in crime against women in the State, the chairperson of the Uttarakhand State Commission for Women (USCW) Kusum Kandwal has directed the district magistrates of all districts to ensure the existence of an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) in all departments. Kandwal said that the ICC must diligently address any and all complaints pertaining to the exploitation of female employees in a fair and unbiased manner. Additionally, she emphasised that no woman should tolerate any form of exploitation and encouraged them to speak out against any injustices inflicted upon them.

Commenting on the launch of ‘Mukhyamantri Sakshat Behna Utsav Yojana (MSBUY) scheme in the State, Kandwal said that it is a commendable step taken by the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. This scheme is aimed at promoting locally-made products by women’s self-help groups. This initiative will not only empower women in the state by selling their products in the local market but also foster a strong connection to the local culture. Kandwal also mentioned that the commission is always ready to offer assistance to the women’s self-help groups. Additionally, she emphasised the importance of supporting these groups by urging the people of the state to purchase their products during the Rakhshabandhan festival.
