In latest news from Dehradun, police have arrested the former chief education officer (CEO) Madan Singh Rawat, one of the accused in the education department sting video case, from Bindal area of the city. Police further said that the accused was presented before the anti-corruption court which sent him to Suddhowala jail in 14-day remand and added that they are now on the lookout for the former Pauri district education officer (secondary) Hareram Yadav, who is another accused of the sting case, now on the run. Notably, a resident of Pauri Asutosh Negi had filed a complaint with the Pauri police station, alleging that the district education brass was involved in corruption case. He also attached a video with the complaint in which some senior education department officers were purportedly seen taking bribes. Thereafter, taking cognizance of the complaint and the video, Pauri police had registered a case against the former chief education officer Madan Singh Rawat, the former district education officer Hareram Yadav and the desk assistant Dinesh Gairola under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988. Subsequently, the accused had moved the High Court to escape arrest, but the court had rejected their interim appeal. Importantly, Gairola had been arrested in October.
