Ex-CM pulls auto rickshaw, carries cylinder to protest against price rise
Congress national general secretary and ex- chief minister Harish Rawat symbolically pulled an auto rickshaw to protest against the rising cost of petrol, diesel and price rise here on Saturday.
Staging this protest demonstration from the Congress Bhawan to the nearby Gandhi Park, Rawat then addressed a gathering while holding a cooking gas cylinder on his shoulder. He said that while the cost of a gas cylinder had risen by about Rs 250 in the past three months, there has been an unprecedented rise in the price of petrol and diesel even as the price of food items has also increased. He said, “In the past six years, the central government has earned Rs 21,00,000 crore from petroleum products alone and nobody knows where this money has gone.”
Rawat exhorted the party members to not rest until the prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas are decreased. Congress workers should move from village to village raising public awareness about the burden of price rise being put on them. He also accused the central government of framing its policies to favour some capitalists. Targeting the state government, he alleged that the problems of the people are being ignored.
