In latest Uttarakhand news, in a blow to the Congress with a few days left for the Bageshwar assembly by-election, a former minister and MLA Suresh Arya joined the BJP in the presence of the State BJP president Mahendra Bhatt. He was first elected to the legislative assembly of undivided Uttar Pradesh in 1984. In 1996 assembly election of undivided UP, he was elected again, defeating the Congress stalwart Yaspal Arya.
