In order to enhance the facilities for patients, the State administration has issued a tender to Peyjal Nigam for the establishment of a blood bank at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital. Informing about this, chief medical superintendent Dr VS Chauhan stated that following the Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal’s direction, the hospital administration recently submitted the blood bank proposal to the State administration. The proposal was approved a few days ago and the next step which was left was to issue a tender to hire a company to build the blood bank. However, the State administration has recently issued a tender for the blood bank construction to the Peyjal Nigam, he added. He further informed that the agency officials recently visited the hospital to inspect the area where the blood bank will be established. The process of preparing a map for the blood bank at the hospital has been initiated and it is likely that the construction work will start soon. He informed that the budget for the blood bank will be fixed by the State administration. He further stated that after the completion of the blood bank, the officials will focus on other matters, including infrastructure, licensing, equipment and staff.
It will be recalled that earlier Chauhan informed that in addition to setting up the blood bank, they will need equipment such as deep freezers, specialised components, cross-matching instruments, among others. They will also require three to four pathologists, nurses, medical officers, technicians and other staff to operate the blood bank. Chauhan stressed the importance of obtaining a license for the blood bank’s operation. Once the blood bank is established, they will promptly request the necessary officials for the license.
