Chief secretary SS Sandhu directed the officials to speed up the construction work of the new Adhat Bazaar in Dehradun’s Haridwar Bypass road. He also asked the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) to prepare a timetable for completing the work of Adhat Bazaar at each level from inception to completion and present it before the State administration. Sandhu stated this in a meeting with officials including the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika and vice chairman of MDDA Banshidhar Tiwari among others at the secretariat on Friday. He asked the officials to give special attention to all basic facilities necessary during the construction work like appropriate places that should be earmarked for fire fighting among others. The land chosen should be utilised properly to its full extent to provide the best experience to shopkeepers and consumers. The bodies concerned should pay full attention to the quality of construction work while ensuring the work finishes on time. Sandhu said that the allotment of shops should be done in advance after consulting the stakeholders so that the shopkeepers and traders know which shops will be allotted to them. Besides this, the officials must also seek suggestions about the construction and design of shops from respective shopkeepers as per the type of their work. Giving further information on the construction work of Adhat Bazaar, the MDDA VC told The Pioneer that 350 plots on about seven acres of land have been marked near Haridwar bypass. These plots will be allotted to respective shop owners and tenants as per their old arrangement in Adhat Bazaar within 10 days. He said that construction work has already been started and besides the shops, spaces like a common place, nursing home and eateries among others will also be built for the convenience of shopkeepers, traders and consumers, added Tiwari.
