Expedite construction of prefabricated homes in Joshimath: DM

The Chamoli district magistrate Himanshu Khurana has directed the executing agency to speed up the construction of prefabricated structures for the families displaced due to land subsidence in Joshimath. He inspected the Horticulture department land and the site at Dhak where prefabricated structures are being built for the affected families. Directing the officials to expedite the construction, he said that any requirement should be brought to the notice of the district administration.

Prefabricated structures are being built by the executing agency RWD with the assistance of Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee at Dhak. Power lines have been installed at this site while other necessary residential facilities are also being arranged for here. A colony of prefabricated structures for the Joshimath subsidence disaster affected is expected to come up soon at Dhak. Similarly, the construction of prefabricated homes on Horticulture department land near the TCP trijunction in Joshimath is reported to be in the final stages. The construction of one-BHK structures is complete while the construction of two-BHK and three-BHK structures is reported to be in the final stage. Khurana also inspected the condition of cracks in various residential buildings in the Gandhinagar and Sinhdwar wards of the city. He also checked the underground water discharge at the Jaypee residential colony in the Marwadi area. The water discharge has decreased from 540 litres per minute (LPM) on January 6 to 16 LPM at present. The district magistrate also interacted with the people affected by the subsidence disaster and assured them that all possible assistance will be provided to the affected people.

It is pertinent to mention here that at least 243 families with 878 members have shifted to temporary accommodations and relief camps due to safety concerns resulting from the effects of the subsidence.
