Material should be airlifted to expedite installation of the Doppler radar at Surkanda in Tehri district. Disaster management secretary SA Murugesan said this while chairing a meeting to review progress of Doppler radar installation in Surkanda and Lansdowne.
It was stated that one Doppler radar was installed in the past at Mukteshwar in Nainital district. The data being received from this rader is being put to use in disaster mitigation and management by the authorities.
Murugesan asked the state meteorological centre director in-charge Rohit Thapliyal that radar equipment should be airlifted to the site in Surkanda to expedite installation of the radar there. He also directed officials of the Uttarakhand state disaster management authority and meteorological centre to visit the site of the Doppler radar at Lansdowne in Pauri district so that work on installation of the radar can be started soon.
