Expedite Pindar & Kosi river linking project: CM to Irrigation dept

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the officers of the Irrigation department to expedite all the processes to be done at the State government level for the project of linking Pindar and Kosi rivers. The CM chaired a review meeting of the Irrigation department at the State secretariat on Wednesday. In the meeting the CM directed the officers to speed up the master drainage plan and flood plain zoning works of the cities. On a stern note the CM directed the officers to prepare a concrete plan for removal of slit from the dams and dredging system within two months. He said that streams should also be earmarked for construction of sewage treatment plants (STP) so that pure water enters Ganga and its tributaries. The CM said that special emphasis should be laid on the construction of Ghats and flood protection works should be expedited. He added that focus on increasing irrigation facilities in mountainous areas and protection of the canals.
Dhami directed the officers to complete required procedure till September for the Jamrani multipurpose and Song dam projects. He said that a provision of Rs 710 crore in the financial year 2024-25 has been made for the Jamrani dam project. This project will provide 117 MLD of drinking water to the Haldwani city and nearby areas and will create additional irrigation facilities in 57,000 hectares of land. The Song dam project will ensure 15 MLD gravity water for Dehradun city and sub urban areas. A provision of Rs 300 crore in this year’s budget for Song Dam project has been made.
The officers informed about the drinking water, flood protection and other projects being undertaken by the department.
The meeting was attended by deputy chairperson of the State infrastructure monitoring committee Vishwas Dabar, chief secretary Radha Raturi, additional chief secretary Anand Bardhan, principal secretary RK Sudhanshu, secretaries R Meenakshi Sundaram, R Rajesh Kumar and others.
