25-member team to cover more than 1,200 kms in 50 days
Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami flagged off a 25-member team to look for the old trekking routes to the Char Dham shrines. This campaign has been started by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) along with Trek The Himalaya. As part of this expedition, the team of 25 members including experts will cover more than 1,200 kilometres to search for the old trekking routes to the Char Dham shrines in the state.The team will undertake this expedition for about 50 days.
Extending his good wishes to the trekkers, the chief minister said that this initiative is a big step towards restoring and conserving the centuries-old heritage of the state. He said that this campaign will also provide a boost to adventure activities in the state apart from helping in raising awareness on environmental conservation while providing a fillip to homestays, local culture and traditions.
It is pertinent to mention here that before the advent of vehicles and construction of motor roads, pilgrims used to undertake the Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand on foot. The bridle paths to the shrines were also sites for cultural exchange apart from being hubs of the state’s culture. However, these went out of use after the construction of motor roads.
Tourism secretary Dilip Jawalkar, additional secretary YK Pant, chief executive officer Ashwini Pundir, additional directors Vivek Singh Chauhan and Poonam Chand were also among those present on the occasion.
