In addition to learning from textbooks, experience and values are also important to develop into a knowledgeable person. Information department director general and Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority vice chairman Banshidhar Tiwari said this at the inauguration of a coaching centre set up by Satyam Help Foundation in memory of the late journalist Madhukant Premi in Haridwar on Wednesday.
Appreciating the initiative to provide educate free of cost, Tiwari stressed on the importance of values and positive personality traits. While referring to the advantages of modern tools like the mobile phone, he said that it is a double-edged sword which should be used sensibly to avoid its downsides. He further exhorted the children present on the occasion to learn from the experiences of their adults. Stressing on the importance of learning both at home from the family and at school, he recalled, “At a function in a private school, I asked how many parents read out or told stories to their children. None of them were telling stories to their children depriving the children of an engrossing way to enhance language and ideas. The mother is the first ‘school’ and then there is also the formal school- both are important,” he said.
Representing the Haridwar Roorkee Development Authority vice chairman Anshul Singh, executive engineer TP Nautiyal appreciated the initiative taken to enhance educational facilities and enable the children to better their future. Journalists Avnish Premi and Arun Kashyap- who were instrumental in establishing the centre to provide free coaching to children of class VI and above, local public representatives, social activists and locals were also present on the occasion.
