Intermittent fasting has become increasingly popular among individuals in recent years as it is believed to help in weight loss and regulate insulin levels. However, experts said that this type of fasting may be ineffective and potentially detrimental to one’s health. It is advised that one should consult with experts or trained nutritionists before attempting intermittent fasting, said dietician Richa Kukreti.

Intermittent fasting is a situation in which people don’t eat for anywhere between 12 to 18 hours in a day. Commenting on intermittent fasting a fitness freak Sanjana Kumar said that many people have embraced intermittent fasting as a means to quickly shed weight. In addition to weight loss, intermittent fasting is also thought to prevent various health conditions such as acidity and high blood pressure. Considering this she has decided to follow this trend and has also opted for intermittent fasting, she added.

Further, local resident Vijay Uniyal said, “I also engage in intermittent fasting once a week. Although intermittent fasting has proven to be effective in reducing weight, I have experienced feelings of internal weakness in my body from time to time. Opting for intermittent fasting I have reduced kilos of weight in the period.”

Talking to The Pioneer, Kurkerti expressed her disapproval of the concept of intermittent fasting. She believes that skipping breakfast, which is essential for maintaining overall health, is not a wise choice. Instead, she suggested opting for a high-fiber diet that includes liquids. Further, she said that one must consult a trained nutritionist before embarking on an intermittent fasting regimen. Without proper guidance, intermittent fasting can lead to underweight, high blood pressure and diabetes, she added.
