Extend the winter session of U’khand assembly- Cong
PCC president Pritam Singh says that the session should be for at least eight days.
Terming the three day long winter session of Uttarakhand Vidhan Sabha very short, the Uttarakhand Congress has demanded that the session should be extended for at least five more days. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Pritam Singh told media persons at Rajiv Bhawan here on Thursday that the Congress leaders would press for extension of duration of the winter session at the meeting of the business advisory committee of the house and other forums. Accusing the state government for shying away from facing the house, the PCC president said that there are large numbers of important issues which are needed to be discussed in the assembly. Singh added that the monsoon session of assembly too was of only one day. “There are many issues and there is a supplementary budget which too needs to be passed. We demand that the session should be of at least eight days. It appears that the government which enjoys an overwhelming majority in the house is frightened by 11 MLAs of Congress party,’’ he quipped. Singh said that the Congress party would raise the issue of corruption and Lokayukta. Singh said that the BJP leaders are accusing that the government is involved in corruption and the Uttarakhand High Court (HC) has stated that a CBI probe should be conducted in the allegations of corruption against the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat. He reminded that the CM in his first press conference had claimed that the Lokayukta would be brought within 100 days but even after four years there are no signs of this office. The Congress leader claimed that the mining mafia is ruling the roost in Uttarakhand and CM’s own constituency is plagued by the illegal mining activity. The PCC president added that the many lives were lost in illicit liquor tragedies in Dehradun and Roorkee but no action on those responsible for them was taken. He said that the state government has failed miserably in dealing with the pandemic of Covid-19 and the party would raise the issue in the state assembly. The Congress leader said that the farmers are in pathetic condition and the three farm laws have agitated them. “These laws would finish the Mandis and system of Minimum Support Price (MSP). It appears these laws were drafted by the government under guidance of Ambani and Adani. It is unfortunate that the Prime Minister has failed to utter a single word on the agitation of farmers. The Congress party has always stood with the farmers and would continue to do so,’’ he said.
The PCC president said that the Congress would also raise the issue of district development authorities, unemployment, plight of the stakeholders and Teerth Purohits who are agitating against the Char Dham Devasthanam bill in the house.
