PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun
A trend has come to light in Dehradun too, where youths and criminals are using fake toy/fake guns to gain attention on social media and to create fear during criminal activities. These fake weapons are often used while making reels and videos to become popular on social media platforms.
According to the police, some youths have started showing fake pistols in their videos to attract views and followers. Such videos are widely shared online and give a wrong message to society, especially to young people. In some cases, criminals have also used fake guns during crimes to threaten others, creating panic among the public.
Dehradun police have arrested some persons in different cases and later found that the weapons used were fake guns. Even though these pistols are not real, the police have made it clear that their use is an offence. The display of fake firearms can disturb public peace and law and order, and people cannot easily identify whether a gun is real or fake.
Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that in many cases fake pistols were recovered from the accused. He added that it has been seen in many cases that people use fake guns on social media only to become viral. He said that the police are keeping a close watch on such activities too.
The police have warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in such acts. Cases are also being registered under the Arms Act wherever required. The authorities have appealed to youths not to misuse social media and to avoid such dangerous trends, as they can lead to serious legal trouble.
