Farmers’ protest fails to garner support in Uttarakhand

The farmers’ protest called by Sainyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) failed to have any major impact in any districts of Uttarakhand on Friday. Some small level protests were observed in some areas of Udham Singh Nagar district like Jaspur, Rudrapur and Kashipur and the Doiwala area of the Dehradun district.
Farmers in the Doiwala area took out a tractor rally in the city and demonstrated against the allegedly anti-farmer policies of the Central government. The members of SKM had also appealed to the local shopkeepers to close their establishments in support of the protest. However, no major impact of the protest was seen in the area.
The SKM convenor Tajendra Singh said during the protest that farmers will continue the protests in support of their demands. He said that the farmers are demanding legal guarantees of a minimum support price (MSP) which is a safety net for the farmers. Besides this, farmers also seek the withdrawal of cases registered against the protesters during the last agitation in 2020- 21.
