Father alleges police not probing rapists of minor daughter, SCPCR directs SSP for probe
Taking cognisance of a complaint by the father of a minor girl who was allegedly raped and later beaten up by three men, the chairperson of the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) has directed the Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Haridwar to investigate the matter. According to SCPCR chairperson Usha Negi, the complainant has stated in the letter that his minor daughter was sexually assaulted by three local men of Haridwar on the night of July 30.
The complainant has stated in the letter that he filed a complaint in the police station the very next day but no action has been taken so far by the police against the culprits. He has further mentioned that the culprits even beat his daughter on August 8 when she was alone at home and threatened her to withdraw the police complaint against them. Though the complaint was filed against them once again, no action was taken by the police as per the complainant. As per the complaint letter, the culprits still continue to threaten the family of the victim but nothing is being done by the local police. The father had stated in the letter that his daughter has suffered mentally and physically and is currently admitted in a hospital in Roorkee. Meanwhile, Negi has directed the Haridwar senior superintendent of police to appoint an investigating officer to thoroughly investigate the matter and subsequently submit the report in the commission within 15 days.
