A father and son died when the car they were travelling in fell into about 200-metre deep gorge in the Kumalda area of Tehri district on Thursday. The officials informed that the accident occurred near Anand Chowk in the Kumalda area in the morning.
After receiving the information about the accident, the Tehri district disaster control room alerted the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to commence a rescue operation at the spot. The officials said that an SDRF team from the Sahastradhara post, led by sub-inspector Rajwar Singh Rana reached the accident site with necessary rescue equipment. Upon reaching the location, the SDRF team retrieved the bodies from the deep gorge. They brought the bodies back to the main road using ropes and a stretcher and handed them over to the police.
The officials said that the victims were identified as 57-year-old Moosa Singh and his 27-year-old son Manveer Singh, both residents of Jardar village in Chamba. They were travelling in their WagonR, registration number UK 07 AR 3411, from Maldevta to Chamba when the car fell into a deep gorge near Anand Chowk in Tehri. Both occupants of the car lost their lives on the spot. The officials said that the police have informed the families and will hand over the bodies after completing the required legal procedure. They also informed that the driver reportedly lost control of the car but the police are yet to ascertain the cause of the accident.
