Fauji fleeing from Assam with rifle and ammunition arrested in Khatima

The police arrested an army man Suraj Chandra Joshi (25) in Khatima, Udham Singh Nagar who had reportedly fled from an army camp in Assam. Joshi, who hails from Champawat district in Uttarakhand, reportedly took an INSAS rifle, 60 live cartridges and four magazines with him. He had been missing for four days before being apprehended in Khatima late on Tuesday, as per the officials. They informed that Joshi fled to Khatima while on duty in Assam, carrying his service weapon. His regiment quickly reported his escape to Borpathar Police Station in Assam.
The officials said that it was revealed during interrogation that Joshi was in debt and had lost significant money on online gaming apps. This left him mentally disturbed. Joshi reportedly stated that he had no intention of harming anyone and returned home for mental peace.The officials said that the police registered a case against him under various sections within hours of receiving the information. Khatima Kotwali Police also lodged a separate case related to the recovery of the arms. The officials said that the military is also likely to interrogate him. The investigation is ongoing, they added.
