FB, WhatsApp, Insta go down in major outage across world

Facebook and its Instagram and WhatsApp platforms were down in parts of the world on Monday.

Users of these three Facebook-owned social media platforms were not being able  to send and receive new messages from 9.15 pm ( Indian time) in India. Downdetector.com, a website that tracks issues related to traffic on major websites, also saw a spike in number of reports which confirmed that a large number of people are unable to access WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram.

More than 20,000 people reported that the WhatsApp was not working for them. The web.whatsapp.com was also displaying this error message — 5xx Server Error. Meanwhile, Facebook has issued a statement over the outage saying “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

WhatsApp also issued a statement over the same and said “We’re aware that some people are experiencing issues with WhatsApp at the moment. We’re working to get things back to normal and will send an update here as soon as possible.” Meanwhile, people have begun a meme fest on Twitter calling out the server down a normal routine.

Instagram also posted a similar message via its official communications handle. “Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we’re on it! #instagramdown,” it said.

WhatsApp messenger counts the country as its biggest market with over 530 million users. Instagram has over 210 million users in India.
