TheFood Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) department has started the sampling process to identify Halal certified food products being sold in Dehradun. The department started the process on the directions of the State government after Uttar Pradesh recently banned the production, storage, distribution and sale of food products with Halal certification.
The department started the sampling process of various products on Wednesday under the supervision of FDA Joint Commissioner, Dr RK Singh. He said that the department has received some complaints about hoarding claiming to sell food products having Halal certification and on the labels of a variety of food products, dairy products, sugar, bakery, peppermint, oil and snacks among others. He said that he has issued instructions to all respective in-charges and designated officers across the State. He said that a team of Senior Food Safety Ranjag Singh, Sanjay Tiwari and Santosh Singh of FDA Dehradun checked the shops and stores located at Clock Tower.
However, the team found no food with Halal certification at that time. Besides this, the team took 12 food samples and sent them for testing, added Singh. He said that the department will continue the sampling process and take appropriate action if Halal certified products are found in the market.
