The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) took legal action against an eatery in Haldwani after a video clip showing a man cleaning potatoes with his feet went viral on social media. The same potatoes were allegedly used to make samosas in the shop.
The video sparked outrage on social media after which the FDA raided the premises on Monday. The Haldwani food safety officer Sanjay Kumar confirmed the authenticity of the video during the inspection. He, along with his team, questioned the shop owner and the employee featured in the footage. Following their investigation, the department decided to suspend the shop’s license and file a case in the ADM court.
The team also collected samples of the food prepared at the shop and sealed the establishment until further notice. Kumar said that the shop owner reportedly admitted that the video indeed originated from her establishment. “She acknowledged the incident, attributing it to an employee’s misconduct during her absence. Despite her explanation, the authorities are proceeding with legal action to ensure food safety and hygiene standards are maintained,” Kumar said. He also added that this action serves as a warning to businesses to adhere to hygiene standards or face strict consequences.
