The Food Safety and Drug Administration department of Uttarakhand has started preparing itself for the Char Dham Yatra in the State. Apart from ensuring smooth supplies of the life saving medicines and other drugs to the medicine shops and health centres the department has become alert on the sale of counterfeit medicines on the Yatra route. The drug controller and Additional Commissioner FDA, Tajber Jaggi told The Pioneer that the department has taken all the measures for the upcoming Char Dham Yatra. He said that a special team has been set up which will closely monitor the situation of supply of medicines on the Yatra route. The team will also undertake inspection of the shops to check the sale of counterfeit medicines. The team will have deputy commissioner Garhwal RS Rawat, deputy commissioner Kumaon Anoj Thapliyal and DO headquarters Manish Sayana and other employees of the department. Jaggi appealed to the pilgrims that they should ask for a proper bill of the medicines purchased by them during Yatra. He said that 276 medicines now carry QR codes and it is advisable that people should scan these codes before purchasing medicines. The AC informed that the department is alert on the sale of counterfeit medicines. The officers have been asked to keep special focus on Rishikesh, Srinagar, Gauchar, Karnprayag and Guptkashi. He said that in the last one year the department has arrested 32 people involved in the business of counterfeit medicines. Jaggi added that owners of the medicine shops on Yatra routes have asked to inform about the medicines needed by them so that their supplies are ensured by interacting with the manufacturers.
