Ahead of the festival of Holi, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) destroyed about two quintals of adulterated Paneer which was being supplied from Saharanpur to Dehradun on Wednesday morning. The district administration’s team along with FDA’s food vigilance team stoped the vehicle transporting the adulterated item based on the information received by the department from various sources about the substandard Paneer being supplied from the Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh to Dehradun, said the senior food safety officer of FDA, Yogendra Pandey. He said that the vehicle was stopped on early Wednesday morning near Radha Enclave at IT Park carrying about two quintals of Paneer and its supplier has reportedly confessed to carrying out the adulteration. He said, “According to the supplier in the vehicle, Sunil Kumar, the Paneer seized by the teams was made from milk, skimmed milk and refined oil. Such cottage cheese has been supplied in the city for consumption in places like hotels and dairies. Besides this, the item was also being transported in unhygienic conditions. Considering this, our teams destroyed the Paneer immediately in the dumping zone near Kargi Chowk with the help of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD).” He said that appropriate action will be taken against the responsible parties.
Pandey said that the authorities concerned are consistently checking adulteration in food items, especially in dairy products as their demand increases during the festivals. He appealed to the locals to buy products from reliable shops and file a complaint if they observe any adulteration in any edible products. The district food safety officer PC Joshi, food safety officers Ramesh Singh, Sanjay Tiwari and Sanjay Negi and Yogendra Negi from the food vigilance team were also present during the checking.
