FDA gears up for Char Dham Yatra sans food adulteration

The Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) department of the State has started gearing up for the upcoming Char Dham and Hemkund Sahib Yatra. The FDA commissioner R Rajesh Kumar said that on the orders of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat the department has intensified the checking of food products and adulteration and has appointed officers for the purpose.
He said that a special working plan has been set in place for the Char Dham Yatra and to maintain food safety at the tourist places. Kumar said appointment of permanent food safety officers have been made in Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri, Nainital and Udham Singh Nagar districts. He said that additional employees will be deployed in the Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts.
The commissioner added that regular checking of the hotels, restaurants, sweet shops and food sellers on the Yatra route will be done. Teams of the department and mobile testing labs will be deployed on the highways and Yatra route.
Kumar warned that strict action will be taken against the food adulterators and it will be ensured that unhygienic and adulterated food is not served to the Yatris. He said that the government has taken many measures for a green Char Dham Yatra and stringent waste disposal measures will be implemented in the eateries.
There will be a complete ban on the single use plastic and separate dustbins will be made compulsory for dry and wet waste. The recycling of the edible oil will be done under the Re- Purpose of Used Cooking Oil ( RUCO) campaign.
