The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has alleged that fearing defeat the ruling BJP is planning to postpone the by- election in Kedarnath. Interacting with the media persons at the headquarters of the State Congress on Tuesday, the PCC president said that it appears that the elections of Urban Local Bodies (ULB), Panchayats and cooperative committees will be held simultaneously and the government will try to postpone the bypolls citing these elections and weather conditions in Kedarnath. He said that the string of announcements the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has made in Kedarnath recently highlight the desperation of the ruling party. He said that the BJP has also deployed as many as five cabinet ministers in Kedarnath but they are unable to turn the tide in the favour of BJP there.
Mahara said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also announced schemes and projects worth Rs 2,000 crore in Haldwani during the campaign of Lok Sabha elections but till now schemes less than Rs two Crore have been implemented on the ground. He said that the people of Kedarnath have understood the designs of the BJP. Taking a dig at the statement of CM Dhami in which had said that he will act as legislator of Kedarnath till a new MLA is elected, Mahara said that if the CM is so concerned about Kedarnath, he should inform about the status of investigation theft of 230 kg of gold from the temple. The CM should also ensure that the donation collected in the name of Kedarnath dham in Buradi of New Delhi and the sacred stone ( Shila) should be returned to the State, he said.
Mahara said that the Congress party will choose its candidate in Kedarnath on the basis of the internal survey of the party and the report of the observers. “At present the second phase of the survey is underway and its report is expected before October 17. The party will also send observers to the constituency. Their reports and findings of the survey will be sent to the party high command which will decide on the issue,’’ he said.
