The Pradesh Congress Committee president Karan Mahara has strongly objected to a statement made by chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami while campaigning for the Bageshwar Assembly by-election. Mahara alleged that Dhami had stated that voting for the Congress is akin to consuming poison. He said that the BJP leadership afraid of its impending defeat in the Bageshwar by-election and is hence making such statements. The PCC president opined that a person occupying an important post like that of the chief minister should consider the dignity of his position before making statements. “The Congress is a democratic party and any person who believes in democracy does not worry about victory and loss. While in office the Congress party has done various works in the interests of the common man and also laid foundation for many schemes for the poor. The BJP government should state which work is has done on which one can take pride. Inflation, unemployment and corruption are at peak and the common man has to struggle for two square meals. Contrary to this, the Congress government had accorded the right to food and education as part of its work to uplift the living standards of the common man. The Congress had started many schemes for the development of the State which were discontinued by the BJP government. The number of unemployed persons is increasing while corruption and corruption rule when it comes to recruitements,” the PCC chief alleged.
Mahara further opined that during his term in office so far, CM Dhami had not done any major work but has remained in power with the support of PM Modi’s name. Afraid of a defeat in the Bageshwar Assembly by-elections, the CM is trying to divert the focus of the public and the people will definitely give a reply on September 5, said Mahara referring to the date of voting in the by-election.
