Voters are looking forward to the day of polling for the Lok Sabha election on April 19. According to the Election Commission’s records, there are 40,12,006 female voters in the State, including 7,45,352 from Dehradun. Looking forward to election, many women have expressed concern and said that they hope the government will address their issues after the election.
A local resident Moni Chauhan said that in the past few years, she has come across numerous instances of crimes against women in Uttarakhand, as well as many other cases reported daily in the media. Despite the government’s rhetoric about women’s empowerment, theere seems to be a lack of initiatives to support it. She said that whoever wins the election must prioritise women’s safety in every sector and take steps to empower women.
Software engineer Sakshi Yadav expressed her concern about the inequality in terms of salary and promotions faced by women in various companies she has worked for. Although everyone talks about equality in every field for men and women, it is not a reality. She suggested that the government should raise awareness about equality.
Local resident Nagma Hussain alleged that she and many women belonging to her community have faced discrimination when it comes to employment opportunities. She believes that whoever wins the election should prioritise equality and safeguard the interests of all people, regardless of their background.
