Minister questions standards & technology being ignored in departmental works
The State’s Irrigation and Minor Irrigation minister Satpal Maharaj said that on the one hand the departments talk of flood protection and also work on that while on the other hand works are also done by ignoring standards and technology. He also directed that vacant posts in the Irrigation and Minor Irrigation departments should be filled immediately. The minister said this while chairing a review meeting of the departments here on Thursday. He said that the dimension of the Suryadhar lake was changed from seven to 10 metres without permission which is unfortunate and shows the absence of a proper work culture. Wrong works will not be tolerated under any circumstances, said the minister.
The Irrigation minister checked the financial and physical progress of works done by the department in past years along with centrally funded schemes and state sector schemes. He also sought information about vacant posts, problems being faced in the department and suggestions. The minister ordered that vacant posts in the Irrigation and Minor Irrigation departments should be filled immediately. He said that with the Char Dham Yatra about to start, all the officers and employees should work with dedication. Those who work properly will be honoured, he said, while exhorting the departments to ensure that the Yatra is successful and that all works are completed before the onset of the monsoon season.
Maharaj said that the departmental officials should also keep providing information about the works to the Panchayat representatives. Work should also be given to Mahila Mangal Dal and Yuvak Mangal Dal. Further, all the water reservoirs in the state should be monitored from time to time while the level of water in the Ganga, Bhagirathi and other rivers should be modulated, he said.
Talking to THDC India Limited officials on the phone, the minister directed them to erect fencing around the Tehri dam reservoir. Head of the Irrigation department, Mukesh Mohan, head of Minor Irrigation department, Brijesh Tiwari, joint secretary GL Sharma, additional secretary UN Pandey and officials from all the districts were also present in the meeting.
