The governor of Uttarakhand Lieutenant General (Rtd) Gurmit Singh has said that the financial literacy among citizens is very important for the development of the country. He was addressing the officers of the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) who had visited Raj Bhawan on Thursday. He held detailed discussion with IRS officers regarding various aspects and challenges related to revenue in Uttarakhand.
He said that the economy should be operated with the spirit of nationalism and there should be an understanding of the economy among the general public. “Indigenous, local and rural products and crafts should be promoted. Awareness should be brought about micro financing in hilly areas in Uttarakhand. The understanding of mass economy, patriotic economy and political economy should be developed among the people,’’ he said.
The Governor told the officers that he was impressed by the confidence and vitality of the hilly women of Uttarakhand. He opined that more and more loans should be made available to them for self-employment. The governor added that leadership quality has to be developed among the local women. The economic empowerment of women is their real empowerment. Revolution in Uttarakhand is possible only by women.
He said a seminar on “Empowerment of Women in the State through Micro Financing” would be organised at Raj Bhawan very soon. In this seminar, women belonging to self-help groups, self-employed women, various credit institutions, banks, master trainers and related departments will participate.
