The Uttarakhand Congress has claimed that the first spell of the monsoon has exposed large-scale corruption in the construction of the roads. The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara said the first spell of rain has converted roads into potholes and the road transportation has been affected badly. He said that one can imagine the condition when the monsoon would be at its peak.
The PCC president said that more than 100 roads in the State are blocked and the rural areas have been cut off. He said that the disaster management system has failed miserably in the State and accidents are occurring in the mountainous regions due to the pathetic condition of the roads. In the cities the roads have got converted into drains and the people are stuck up in traffic jams for hours together.
Taking potshots at the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the PCC president said that the road patch repairing App was released with much hype to make the roads of the State free from potholes but the government failed to make one per cent of the roads free from the potholes. He demanded that the government should inform about the roads made free from the potholes with the help of App.
“The CM was claiming to make 2500 km of roads free from potholes but the first spell of rains has exposed this claim. The government has also failed in managing the Char Dham Yatra. The roads on the Yatra route are in pathetic condition and all weather roads are blocked in many places. A 50 meter stretch of Badrinath highway has got washed away in flash flood,’’ he said.
