A number of first-time voters flocked to polling booths in Dehradun on Thursday to cast votes in the civic body elections. Many opined that they had voted to bring about improvement and sustainable development in the city. Many accorded priority to women’s safety and security, availability of public toilets, creation of playgrounds and the establishment of libraries, among other aspects.

First-time voter Priyanka Chandra stated that she had voted for the first time in the ULB election with a focus on development which ultimately benefits the citizens. She stated that the elected candidates must prioritise the safety and security of women, ensure the availability of public toilets and playgrounds to promote physical activity among young adults. “I was very excited to vote for the first time. Regardless of who wins, the elected candidates must work with integrity and prioritise development initiatives that benefit the citizens. In my opinion, elected representatives should focus on providing public toilets and libraries for young adults,” said another first-time voter, Kartavya Narang.

Similarly, another first-time voter, Gauri Virmani, expressed her excitement at participating in the electoral process for the first time. She emphasised that the elected candidates should prioritise the city’s development, viewing it as a crucial responsibility rather than a mere formality.
