Five Cong MLAs from Haridwar protest against mazar/temple demolition

Monday, 08 May 2023 | PNS | DEHRADUN

With the Haridwar district administration carrying on with the anti-encroachment and demolition operations against the illegally built mazars and temples, all the five Congress MLAs from Haridwar staged protest at the district magistrate’s camp office in Roshnabad. They said that in the name of anti-encroachment operations, the district administration has been targeting and demolishing such mazars and temples that have stood for years as symbols of the people’s faith.

They met the DM Vinay Shankar Pandey and after coming out of his office, they made a fuss in the DM’s camp office and accused the district administration of not acting on its commitment. They said that the DM had assured them that no mazar would be demolished till Tuesday. But with the administration changing stance, an old mazar in Arya Nagar was demolished on Tuesday at the behest of the DM, they said.

The Congress MLAs alleged that the district administration has been creating communal disharmony by helping the ruling BJP execute its political agenda.

The five MLAs present were Mamta Rakesh, Furkan Ahmad, Ravi Bahadur, Anupma Rawat and Virendra Jaati.

Meanwhile, the DM said that the district administration has been executing the ruling of the Supreme Court. “Any structure that may come up on the public road or the government land will be removed,” he said.
